Bhubaneswar: A cyclonic circulation has formed over the central Andaman Bay of Bengal today, which is likely to convert into a low pressure by October 21, India Meteorological Department (IMD) said.
The system is further likely to intensify into a depression by October 23, it added. Under its influence, Odisha will experience heavy rain from October 23.
“A cyclonic circulation lay over central Andaman sea at 0300 UTC of today the 19th October. Under its influence, a low-pressure area is likely to form over the east-central Bay of Bengal and adjoining north Andaman sea on 21st October, thereafter, it is likely to move northwestwards and intensify further into a depression by 23rd October,” read an IMD bulletin.
Although there is no cyclone estimate yet, clarity on storm prospects will emerge once low-pressure area forms, IMD said.
IMD Director General Mrutyunjay Mohapatra noted that October is a month prone to cyclones, and the situation is being monitored closely
