Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast significant weather changes across Odisha this week as a cyclonic circulation over the northern Bay of Bengal, near southern Bangladesh, is expected to strengthen into a low-pressure area by July 3.
According to IMD, this system is likely to activate the monsoon, triggering widespread rainfall across the state. Heavy to very heavy rains are predicted in northern and southern Odisha on July 3. On July 4, widespread moderate to heavy showers are expected to cover northern, southern, and large parts of western Odisha. Rainfall intensity may further increase on July 5, particularly along the coastal regions in addition to the other areas. Wet conditions are likely to persist across the state until July 7.
For today, the IMD has issued an orange alert for Mayurbhanj and Koraput districts, indicating the possibility of extremely heavy rainfall. Additionally, yellow alerts have been placed for Malkangiri, Nabarangapur, Rayagada, Gajapati, Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Balasore, Sambalpur, Deogarh, and Angul.
In view of rough sea conditions, strong winds, and expected heavy rainfall, fishermen have been strictly advised not to venture into the sea till July 5.
