Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Tuesday reported that an upper air cyclonic circulation is persisting over the east-central Bay of Bengal and adjoining areas, extending up to 5.8 km above mean sea level.
Under its influence, a low-pressure area is expected to form over the central Bay of Bengal within the next 12 hours. The system is likely to move west-northwestwards and intensify into a depression over the west-central and adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal by October 2.
According to forecasts, the weather system will continue its west-northwestward movement and is likely to cross the south Odisha–north Andhra Pradesh coasts on the morning of October 3.
The IMD has advised continuous monitoring of the system’s development, as it could bring significant rainfall and gusty winds to coastal districts during its landfall.
Fishermen have been alerted to avoid venturing into the sea during this period.
