Nayagarh: The official vehicle of Daspalla Block Development Officer (BDO) Sarat Chandra Mallik came under attack after unidentified miscreants pelted stones at it near Nachhipur village in Nayagarh district on Friday, police said.
The incident occurred while the BDO was returning after attending official programmes in Nachhipur Panchayat. According to reports, two bike-borne miscreants suddenly hurled stones at the vehicle, shattering its front windshield.
Although the BDO narrowly escaped serious injury, one of the stones reportedly struck his leg after breaking through the windshield. The driver sustained injuries in the attack. However, both the BDO and the driver managed to avoid any major harm.
Sources said Mallik had visited Nachhipur Panchayat to monitor Special Intensive Revision (SIR) work. He later distributed government assistance to a fire victim in the village along with the local Sarpanch before beginning his return journey.
The sudden attack forced the driver to stop the vehicle, averting a possible accident. The assailants fled the spot immediately after pelting stones at the car.
Following the incident, the BDO lodged a complaint at Daspalla Police Station. Police have initiated an investigation to identify and apprehend the attackers.
The motive behind the attack is yet to be ascertained.
