Bhubaneswar: Vigilance sleuths today apprehended a Data Entry Operator (DEO) at the Office of Tahasildar at Begunia in Khordha for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 8,000.

According to vigilance, Smruti Jayasingh was caught while taking the bribe from a complainant who had applied for the conversion of agricultural land to a non-agricultural purpose. The complainant had approached the Vigilance authorities after Jayasingh allegedly delayed processing the file and demanded the bribe.

The Vigilance team recovered and seized the tainted bribe money from her possession. Searches are currently underway at two locations associated with her to investigate potential disproportionate assets.

A case has been registered against Jayasingh under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018. Investigation is underway.
