Bhubaneswar: A joint team of Town police and Bhawanipatna Jail officials arrested one of two under-trial prisoners, who escaped from Bhawanipatna jail after scaling the boundary wall on Sunday morning, from his village.
According to sources, the jail authorities launched a manhunt search to find out the UTPs identified as Sikandar Jal and Neelmani Majhi. Sikandar is from Nuapada district while Neelmani is a resident of Dharmagarh district. They were put behind bars after being booked under the POCSO Act.
Following the escape of UTPs, Town police registered a case in this connection.
The joint team of Town police and jail officials conducted raids to nab the UTPs. Sikandar Jal was arrested during a raid at his village. Sikandar Jal was handed over to the custody of the police.
On the other hand, another UTP Nilamani is still on the run.
Earlier, two UTPs arrested on charges of murder escaped from Titlagarh sub-jail on March 11. The jail warder was held responsible for the escape of the UTPs and suspended on the charges of dereliction of duty in connection with the incident.
Frequent escapes of UTPs from Titlagarh and Bhawanipatna jails have exposed chinks in the security arrangement in jails.
