Bhubaneswar: Day temperatures continued to remain high across several parts of Odisha on Monday, with western districts recording the highest readings, even as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) indicated no major change in maximum temperature over the next two days.
According to the evening weather bulletin issued by the Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar, Jharsuguda recorded the highest maximum temperature in the state at 38°C, followed by Titlagarh at 37.5°C, Dhenkanal at 37°C, and Sundargarh and Nayagarh at 36.8°C. Several other interior districts such as Sambalpur, Hirakud and Bhawanipatna also recorded day temperatures above 36°C.
The mercury remained comparatively lower in the coastal belt. Bhubaneswar recorded a maximum temperature of 33.4°C, while Cuttack reported 32.8°C and Puri 31.6°C. Coastal stations like Balasore and Gopalpur recorded around 30–31°C during the day.
Night temperatures varied significantly across the state, with the lowest minimum temperature recorded at Daringibadi (16.5°C) and Koraput close behind at 16.6°C, reflecting cooler conditions in the hilly regions of southern Odisha.
The IMD said no significant synoptic system currently prevails over the region. However, light to moderate rain or thunderstorms may occur at one or two places in Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Balasore and Bhadrak districts in the next 24 hours. A yellow warning has been issued for these districts for possible thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty surface winds reaching 30–40 kmph at isolated locations.
For the rest of the state, dry weather is likely to prevail. The weather office has forecast no large change in maximum temperature over the next two days, followed by a rise of 2–3°C during the subsequent three days.
For Bhubaneswar and its neighbourhood, the forecast indicates fog or mist in the morning followed by a partly cloudy sky, with temperatures likely to hover around 34°C during the day and 23°C at night over the next 24 hours.
