Bhubaneswar: More skeletons are tumbling out of the cupboard in the sensational murder case of cameraman Manas Swain.
Manas had reportedly, written a three-page letter before he succumbed to the torture inflicted on him by his assailants at the old-age home-Dayal Ashram in the Sunderpada area under Airfield police limits.
According to a woman caretaker of the old-age home, while she was sweeping the floor of a room in the ashram she had found a piece of paper on which Manas Swain had written his name, his father’s name, name of his village, described him being beaten up and the perpetrators had taken away his camera, mobile phone, bank passbook, and cash amounting to Rs 4,000.
Manas had also written that in the event of his death his body should be sent to his village and not handed over to these sinners, the woman caretaker has claimed.
The caretaker has said that she had handed over the letter to Sarmistha Rout in the evening, who ran the old-age home.
Sarmistha, who was also the Editor of an Odia fortnightly ‘Sampurna’, and a web channel is the prime accused in cameraperson Manas Swain’s murder case.
Manas was an employee of Sarmistha. He was allegedly kidnapped from Palaspur village under Chandbali police limits in Bhadrak on February 6 by Sarmistha and her associates.
The second episode of this spine-chilling crime unfolded in Bhubaneswar where Manas was murdered at Dayal Ashram in Sunderpada on February 7. His body was disposed of (buried) in Ranapur in Nayagarh district the following day.
So far, six persons including former OIS officer Niranjan Sethi and Sarmistha’s brother Parameswar have been arrested, while the prime accused and her associate Jhuna remain at large.
