Balasore: A man was critically injured after being brutally attacked by a debtor, who also set his bike on fire at Andarai village under Simulia police limits in Balasore district on Saturday.
The victim, identified as Basant Kumar Mahapatra, sustained serious injuries to his head and leg and is currently undergoing treatment at Simulia Community Health Centre (CHC).
According to the victim, he had lent Rs 14,000 to one Madhabananda Mahapatra over five years ago. The accused had reportedly agreed to repay the amount in monthly instalments of Rs 500 twice a month. However, he allegedly defaulted on the payment last month.
“When I approached him, he assured me he would repay the entire amount at once and invited me to his house to collect it. But when I reached there, he attacked me with a sharp weapon, causing a deep injury to my knee. While I was rushing to get medical help, he set my new bike on fire,” Basant alleged.
Following the incident, a complaint was lodged at Simulia police station. Police have registered a case and begun an investigation.
