Bhubaneswar: A decomposed carcass of a elephant was recovered from Raipuria Reserve Forest under Gurundia block in Sundaragada district on Monday, while in a separate incident, a tusked elephant trampled a 40-year-old man to death in Dhenkanal’s Kapilash forest area.
In Sundaragada, local residents spotted the dead elephant while entering the forest and immediately informed the forest department. The Jarda Range Officer and forest staff reached the spot and alerted the Divisional Forest Officer (DFO). The tusked elephant had been unwell for the past few days and was roaming in the forest. Forest officials had been monitoring its movements.
Following the death, the DFO and Assistant Conservator of Forests (ACF) visited the site and began an investigation into the cause of death.
In a separate incident, a tusker created panic in Ramei village under the Kapilash forest range in Dhenkanal district. The elephant broke into a house, dragged out a sleeping man and trampled him to death.
The deceased has been identified as 40-year-old Pramod Bhoi of Ramei village.
Upon being informed, Kapilash forest staff reached the spot in the morning, recovered the body and sent it for post-mortem examination.
