Bhubaneswar: The Deep Depression over the Westcentral and adjoining Northwest Bay of Bengal continued its westward movement and is expected to make landfall along the North Andhra Pradesh–South Odisha coast by tonight.
According to India Meteorological Department (IMD), the system was centred near latitude 18.0°N and longitude 85.0°E as of 23:30 pm on 22 September. It lay approximately 100 km east-southeast of Kalingapatnam in Andhra Pradesh, 150 km south of Gopalpur in Odisha, 220 km south-southwest of Puri in Odisha, and 180 km east-northeast of Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh.
The Deep Depression moved westwards at a speed of 7 kmph during the past six hours. It is very likely to continue moving west-northwestwards and cross the coast between Visakhapatnam and Gopalpur, close to Kalingapatnam, as a Deep Depression by the night of 23 September 2026.
IMD in coastal Andhra Pradesh and Odisha are monitoring the system closely.
