Bhubaneswar: The Deep Depression over north interior Odisha and adjoining parts of Jharkhand and Gangetic West Bengal continued its westward movement on Tuesday evening, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) stating that the system is expected to travel further across north Odisha, adjoining south Jharkhand and north Chhattisgarh over the next 24 hours.
According to the IMD’s national bulletin issued at 8.42 pm, the weather system moved westwards at a speed of around 18 kmph during the previous six hours. At 5.30 pm, it was centred over north interior Odisha and adjoining Jharkhand near latitude 21.9°N and longitude 85.5°E.
The system was located about 30 km north of Keonjhargarh, 70 km east-southeast of Rourkela, 80 km south-southwest of Chaibasa, 150 km east of Jharsuguda and 170 km east-northeast of Sambalpur.
The IMD said the Deep Depression is very likely to maintain its westward movement, passing across north Odisha and adjoining south Jharkhand before progressing towards north Chhattisgarh during the next 24 hours.
The movement of the system is expected to sustain widespread rainfall activity over the region, with the meteorological agency continuing to closely monitor its progress and issue updated forecasts as required.
