Chatrapur (Ganjam): Traffic movement through Kalinga Ghat in Kandhamal district will remain closed on September 23 and September 24 in view of the adverse weather conditions likely from the deep depression over the Bay of Bengal, Ganjam Collector V Keerthi Vasan said on Sunday.
The decision was taken in consultation with the Kandhamal district administration as a precautionary measure, with passengers and vehicle drivers advised to use alternative routes during the closure period.
The Ganjam district administration has stepped up preparedness measures to deal with any eventuality arising from the weather system. An emergency meeting was held with the Chief Secretary, while 110 cyclone shelters and more than 1,000 temporary shelters have been kept ready across the district.
Two special ODRAF teams have also been deployed in Ganjam, with one stationed at Bhanjanagar and the other in the Chikiti-Patrapur area. All departments and officials have been placed on alert, and the administration is closely monitoring the situation.
