Bhubaneswar: The deep depression over western parts of central Chhattisgarh and adjoining east Madhya Pradesh has remained practically stationary during the past six hours.
As per the 5:30 am update today, the system is centred near latitude 21.9°N and longitude 81.4°E, about 70 km east of Malanjkhand (Madhya Pradesh), 80 km north of Durg, 80 km west-southwest of Bilaspur, 80 km north-northwest of Raipur (Chhattisgarh), and 130 km east-northeast of Gondia (Maharashtra).
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has stated that the deep depression is very likely to move nearly westwards across Chhattisgarh, east Madhya Pradesh, and adjoining Vidarbha region, and gradually weaken into a depression during the next 12 hours.
Weather scientist Uma Shankar Das said that the system has shown very slow movement over the past five days while remaining centred over Chhattisgarh. Due to this sluggish pace, the system has caused prolonged heavy to very heavy rainfall in several areas.
In the last 24 hours, southern interior Odisha received very heavy rainfall, with the highest amount of 164 mm recorded at Sinnapali in Nuapada district.
