Bhubaneswar: The deep depression that formed over the northwest Bay of Bengal and affected the Odisha-West Bengal coasts has weakened significantly after a seven-day journey inland.
According to the latest update from the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the system, which was earlier a depression over southwest Madhya Pradesh and adjoining East Rajasthan and Gujarat region, moved nearly west-northwestwards and weakened into a well-marked low pressure area over southeast Rajasthan and neighbourhood at 5:30 am on Saturday.
The IMD said the well-marked low pressure area is very likely to continue moving west-northwestwards across south Rajasthan and weaken further into a low pressure area during the next 24 hours.
With the system now weakening over Rajasthan, the intensity of rainfall associated with it is expected to gradually reduce in the coming hours.
