Bhubaneswar: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh attended a program in Bhubaneswar on Tuesday to mark the first death anniversary of former Union Minister Debendra Pradhan, describing him as a stalwart of politics and the Bhishma Pitamah of the Odisha BJP.
In his address at the OUT Auditorium, Singh praised Pradhan’s dedication to public service, saying he worked tirelessly to restore credibility to politics. “He was a distinguished doctor and just as dedicated to treating patients as he was to serving the public,” Singh said.
Singh highlighted Pradhan’s contributions to education, employment, infrastructure, and agriculture, noting his efforts to eradicate poverty in Odisha. He recalled Pradhan’s role in making BJP a strong force in Odisha, serving as state president three times and leading the party to major success in the 1998 Lok Sabha elections.
The Defence Minister also praised Pradhan’s participation in the Ram Temple movement and his advocacy for regional languages, taking his oath as Union Minister in Odia. Singh expressed confidence that Pradhan’s son Dharmendra would continue his legacy, citing his role in the National Education Policy reform.
The event was a tribute to Pradhan’s lasting impact on Odisha’s politics and development. Singh’s presence underscored Pradhan’s significance in Indian politics. The ceremony was attended by dignitaries, reflecting Pradhan’s enduring influence.
