Bhubaneswar: In a shocking incident that has raised serious concerns over urban safety, a food delivery executive was brutally attacked by unidentified miscreants wielding a sword near Master Canteen area in the Odisha capital late Monday night.
The incident occurred around 1:45 AM near Rajdhani Fastfood, under the jurisdiction of Kharavela police station. The victim, identified as Janmejaya Gochhayat, was reportedly waiting for an order when two individuals approached him from behind and attempted to snatch his mobile phone.
According to Gochhayat, the assailants questioned his presence at the spot. As he moved towards a fast-food outlet across the road, another miscreant suddenly attacked him from behind, striking his leg with a sword before fleeing the scene.
The victim collapsed on the road in a blood-soaked condition and was later rushed to a nearby hospital by police personnel. He sustained a deep injury to his knee and required multiple stitches, sources said.
Gochhayat’s family has lodged a formal complaint at Kharavela police station. Acting on the FIR, police have launched an investigation and are scanning CCTV footage from the area to identify and apprehend the accused.
The brazen nature of the attack, carried out near a busy public area and close to a police station, has sparked alarm among residents. The victim also expressed concern over safety in the capital, questioning security arrangements in prominent locations like Master Canteen.
He further alleged that the area often sees the movement of individuals under the influence of drugs, adding to the sense of insecurity.
