Bhubaneswar: Normal life, especially traffic movement, was disrupted at several places in Odisha on Friday as a thick blanket of fog shrouded cities and rural areas in the morning hours reducing visibility significantly. Commuters and office goers faced problems in reaching their destinations as public transport vehicles were few and far between due to the foggy weather.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) had warned on Thursday that the weather conditions would remain unchanged for the remaining days of the week. Issuing a yellow alert for fog, the weather office forecasted that dense fog is very likely to occur at one or two places in Khurdha, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Sundergarh, Deogarh, Angul, Boudh, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, and Koraput till Sunday.
The fog was so dense in Rourkela that Alliance Air had to cancel its maiden direct flight to Kolkata on Thursday. Sundargarh district has been experiencing extreme foggy weather conditions for the last several days.
Meanwhile, the minimum temperatures (night temperatures) rose by 2C°-3C° at various places in Odisha. While Koraput shivered at 8C° (4 C° below normal), the minimum temperature in Daringbadi and G Udayagiri was 9C°. Phulbani recorded the lowest minimum temperature of 11C° in the plains.
