Bhubaneswar: Several places in Odisha were engulfed in a blanket of dense fog on Tuesday morning with visibility reduced to less than 50 meters. Normal life was affected as dense fog disrupted vehicular movement across the state raising fears of accidents.
The regional office of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) in Bhubaneswar had issued a yellow alert for dense fog in 10 districts of Odisha till 8.00 am today. Dense fog is also likely to occur in 14 districts on Wednesday and Thursday.
Shallow to moderate fog is very likely to occur during early morning hours at a few places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Angul, Dhenkanal and Keonjhar and at one or two places over the districts of Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Bolangir, Bhadrak and Sundargarh.
Fog has disrupted normal life in the state for the past few days. Dense fog disrupted life in Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Kandhamal, Kalahandi, Nayagarh, Rayagada and Koraput districts. In the capital city Bhubaneswar, fog prevailed till after 8.15 am.
Meanwhile, the Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) and Additional Chief Secretary issued an advisory to all District Collectors and SPs directing the police and transport officials of respective districts to take necessary steps for controlled plying of vehicles on highways during dense fog to avoid any road accidents.
Meanwhile, the night temperature rose slightly across the state on Monday owing to western disturbances. According to the weather office, the conditions are unlikely to change during the next three days, but winter chill may return to Odisha subsequently.
