Bhubaneswar: Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida chaired a review meeting today at the Lok Seva Bhawan to discuss a permanent solution to the flooding in the Dhanua River. The meeting focused on finding a lasting solution to the annual flood situation in the Dhanua River and its impact on agriculture and livelihood in Nimapara and surrounding areas.

The meeting was attended by Additional Secretary and Development Commissioner Anu Garg, Senior Engineer of the Water Resources Department Dr. Chandra Shekhar Padhi, and other concerned department officials. Notably, the Dhanua River, originating from Achyutpur Kaja of the Bhargavi River, affects Puri district through Balianta and Balipatna.

Floods in the Dhanua River have become a recurring disaster in Puri district, affecting the livelihood of people in Nimapara and surrounding areas annually. Floodwaters inundate the village of Ganda, destroying hundreds of hectares of paddy fields and other crops. It takes over a week for the floodwaters to recede, impacting several panchayats in Nimapara and Gop areas.

To mitigate this damage and protect the livelihoods of farmers and locals, Deputy Chief Minister Parida directed the preparation of an action plan, to be implemented before the onset of the rainy season.
