Deputy CM Singh Deo Inaugurates 18th Power Cup Cricket Tournament In Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar: The 18th edition of the Power Cup Cricket Tournament 2026, jointly organized by the Odisha Power Transmission Corporation Limited (OPTCL) and GRIDCO, concluded successfully at the East Coast Railway Stadium in Bhubaneswar. The annual sporting event witnessed enthusiastic participation from various power sector organizations across the state.

The tournament was inaugurated by Deputy Chief Minister and Minister of Energy, and Agriculture & Farmers’ Empowerment, Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo, who highlighted the importance of sports in promoting teamwork, discipline, and a healthy work-life balance among employees.

Several senior officials from the energy sector graced the occasion as honoured guests, including Vishal Kumar Dev, Principal Secretary, Energy Department; Bhaskar Sharma, Chairman and Managing Director, OPTCL; B.B. Mehta, Director (SLDC); Prasant Kumar Patnaik, Director (Operations); Pradeep Kumar Dash, Director (Projects); Srikant Kumar Sahu, Director (Finance); and Anita Mahapatra, Chief General Manager (Human Resources). They encouraged the participating teams and appreciated the spirit of sportsmanship displayed during the tournament.

A total of thirteen teams representing various corporations under Odisha’s power sector competed in the tournament. Addressing the gathering, the Deputy Chief Minister lauded OPTCL for consistently organizing sports-based programmes and said such initiatives play a vital role in safeguarding the physical and mental well-being of employees.

In the inaugural match held at the East Coast Railway Stadium, TPCODL put up an impressive total of 171 runs in four overs, while OAPC was bowled out for 93 runs, resulting in a decisive victory for TPCODL.

Meanwhile, in another league match played at the IDCO Cricket Stadium, NALCO posted 175 runs for the loss of six wickets, successfully restricting the Energy Department team to 124 runs.
