Bhubaneswar: Deputy Chief Minister Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo conducted a comprehensive review of irrigation projects in Balangir district, with a special focus on the Upper Lanth Irrigation Project.

The project, whose foundation stone was laid during Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi’s visit to Balangir, aims to address water scarcity for irrigation in the Khaprakhol and Belpada areas, ultimately benefiting local farmers.

Development Commissioner Anu Garg also participated in the review meeting, where Singh Deo meticulously examined various aspects of the project, including land acquisition, dam construction, and the development of office buildings. He provided valuable insights into the geographical challenges of the project and urged officials to communicate directly with him regarding any obstacles hindering its successful implementation.

Singh Deo emphasized the importance of timely and efficient execution, stating, “The successful completion of this project will transform the agricultural landscape of the region, ensuring water availability for irrigation and boosting farmers’ livelihoods.”

The Upper Lanth Irrigation Project is expected to be completed by November 2027. The review meeting was attended by key officials, including Water Resources Chief Engineer Chandrashekhar Padhi, Balangir Collector Gaurav Shivaji Ishalwar, Odisha Lift Irrigation Corporation (OLIC) Managing Director Alok Kar, and other officers from the Water Resources Department.
