Bhubaneswar: Development Commissioner and Additional Chief Secretary of Water Resources Department, Anu Garg today assessed the flood situation in the Subarnarekha river basin in Balasore district.
The meeting was attended by the department’s engineer-in-chief, concerned chief engineers, and other officials.
Garg also discussed the rain and flood situation in the upstream areas with Prashant Kumar, Secretary of Water Resources Department of Jharkhand. The water level of the Subarnarekha river has remained stable at 11.60 meters for the last two hours at Rajghat due to the full moon causing a delay in water discharge due to high sea tides.
Chandrasekhar Padhi, Chief Engineer of the Water Resources Department, has been monitoring the situation in Balasore for the past two days. The water levels of Jalaka and Budhabalang rivers have decreased and are flowing below the danger mark. The water level of both the rivers stood at 6.6 meters and 6.94 meters respectively.
Additionally, the waters of Brahmani and Baitarani rivers have also flowed below the danger mark. Garg reviewed the water level status of various large and medium water reservoirs, including Hirakud, Rengali, Upper Kolab, Bali Mela, and Lower Indravati.
After analysing the situation, Garg directed departmental officers and officials to remain vigilant and advised Balasore district officials to take necessary steps. Other officials present at the meeting included Aarti Rout, Ashutosh Dash, Bijay Kumar Samal, and Sagar Mohanty.
