Puri: Two persons were arrested after police seized around one quintal of ganja packed in 176 packets from a rented house in Gopalpur village of Puri district on Friday, police said.
The accused have been identified as Kartikeswar Samantray and Debendra Sahoo.
Acting on a tip-off about ganja being stored at a house near Pharmacy College, a team from Penthakata Marine Police Station conducted a raid and recovered the contraband, police said.
The house belonged to real estate contractor Chandradhwaj Patra and had been rented out to the two accused. Police suspect that the duo had been using the premises to store the ganja before distributing it.
Puri SP Prateek Singh said the two accused had been allegedly involved in drug-related activities earlier.
“Acting on a tip-off, police raided the house and recovered a huge quantity of ganja packed in several packets. Around one quintal of ganja was stored there and the accused allegedly planned to distribute it in the future,” Singh said.
Police have launched an investigation to ascertain the source of the ganja and identify others who may be involved in the alleged smuggling network.
