Bhubaneswar: A high-level review meeting on law and order, crime control and policing in the Bhubaneswar-Cuttack Commissionerate was held at the Commissionerate Police Conference Hall today under the chairmanship of DGP Vinaytosh Mishra.
The DGP thoroughly reviewed the law and order situation in the Commissionerate area over the past few days, issues related to the upcoming Assembly session, crime control, crimes against women and children, implementation of the NDPS Act, ‘Nisha-mukt Odisha Abhiyan’, traffic management, implementation of new criminal laws and police infrastructure.
Since the Assembly session is to be held in the coming days, the DGP stressed keeping a close watch on possible agitations and protests by various organizations and making advance preparations.
With the next three months being festival season, Mishra advised heightened vigilance against crime and criminals. He stressed preparing a special plan to ensure festivals are celebrated in a peaceful and safe environment, with adequate deployment at sensitive places, crowd control, traffic management, peace committee meetings and continuous coordination with public representatives and community leaders. Special vigil was sought in sensitive areas of Cuttack during the festivals.
The meeting also emphasized strong legal action against habitual and organized criminals, strict implementation of the NDPS Act, and regular raids against illegal activities. The DGP ordered strengthening of the ‘Nisha Mukta Odisha Abhiyan’ and strict action against drug smuggling networks.
Special attention was also given to cyber crime and crimes through mule accounts, with emphasis on identifying suspected bank accounts, registering cases in cyber and economic offence police stations and conducting integrated investigations.
Effective implementation of new criminal laws, forensic and scientific investigation, fingerprint collection, use of e-summons, e-sign, body cameras and dashboard cameras were also discussed. Police infrastructure projects in Bhubaneswar and Cuttack, Emergency Response Support System (ERSS) and traffic systems were reviewed as well.
Senior officers including ADG (Law and Order) Sanjay Kumar, Commissioner of Police Devadatta Singh, IGP (EOW, STF) Himanshu Kumar Lal, IGP (Intelligence) Satyabrat Bhoi, IGP (SCRB) Abinash Kumar, IGP (Crime Branch) Sarthak Sarangi, DCP (Cuttack) Khilari Rishikesh Dnyandeo and DCP (Bhubaneswar) Jagmohan Meena attended the meeting.
