Bhubaneswar: Maintaining peace, order and public safety is top priority, DGP Binaytosh Mishra said on Wednesday ahead of the Odisha Bandh tomorrow.
A high-level meeting was held at the State Police Headquarters through video conferencing under the chairmanship of the DGP to review preparedness. In the meeting, Mishra discussed in detail maintenance of law and order, public safety, traffic management and security of government and public property during the bandh.
He directed all district SPs to continuously monitor local situation by collecting real-time inputs from all police stations. The DGP ordered increased patrolling and naka checking with adequate deployment on highways, national highways, railway stations and other important locations. He emphasised on identifying key protest sites and taking preventive measures there and strengthening intelligence network.
All district SPs and senior officers were asked to remain vigilant to ensure there is no violence, vandalism, forcible closure of shops or disruption of public transport during the bandh.
Mishra stressed on taking immediate and strong legal action against those taking law into their own hands. To avoid any untoward incident, local police officers were asked to keep constant vigil in sensitive areas and maintain coordination with public and peace committees. He directed to work in a coordinated manner at all levels to maintain peace and a safe environment in the state.
The meeting was attended by ADG SAP Rajesh Kumar, DIG Personnel Jugal Kishore Kumar Banoth, DIG Crime Madakar Sandeep Sampat, SP Crime Vivekananda Sharma, AIG Law and Order Prabhashankar Nayak and ADG Railways and Coastal Security Arun Bothra, besides all IGs/DIGs, SPs of all districts, DCP Bhubaneswar, DCP Cuttack and SRP Cuttack and Rourkela through VC.
