Bhubaneswar: : A high-level review meeting on law and order, crime control and police system of the districts under the Central Range was held at the State Police Headquarters today under the chairmanship of DGP Vinaytosh Mishra.
In the meeting, the DGP discussed in detail with the District SPs the overall law and order situation along with control of serious crimes like murder, theft, robbery and loot, reduction in road accident deaths, steps towards creating a ‘Nasha Mukt Odisha’, cyber crime, expediting investigation of cases and filing charge sheets in a timely manner and increasing conviction rate.
DGP Mishra said that since many important districts of the state fall under the Central Range, law and order in this region is of special importance. He directed that since many festivals like Ganesh Puja, Nuakhai, Vishwakarma Puja, Durga Puja, Gajalakshmi Puja, Deepavali/Kalipuja, Amla Navami, Panchuk and Bali Yatra will be celebrated in coming days, plans should be made from now to ensure peaceful, orderly and safe celebrations.The DGP emphasized on adequate police deployment, crowd control and smooth traffic management in sensitive areas during festivals.
He also advised SPs to organize peace committee meetings and maintain constant coordination with local public representatives, various organizations and prominent figures of the community. He stressed regular monitoring of communally sensitive areas and taking preventive measures to prevent possible untoward incidents. He said good relations between police and public are important for maintaining law and order. For this, he directed local police station officers to regularly visit their areas and establish good relations with local representatives and residents to address their problems and complaints.
Similarly, the DGP directed SDPOs to regularly visit police stations under their jurisdiction and monitor functioning, crime investigation, progress of cases and police service delivery.To further enhance effectiveness of crime control, the DGP directed to keep close watch on movements of habitual criminals and organized criminals and take strong steps against them. He directed SPs to strengthen naka checking and patrolling to prevent illegal cattle trafficking, illegal mining and transportation, and to conduct regular raids, vehicle inspections and legal action against violators.
Similarly, the DGP directed to continuously monitor rumours, inflammatory, offensive and misleading information being circulated on social media and to counter such propaganda. He emphasized on further strengthening intelligence gathering system to collect advance information about possible crimes and untoward incidents and take immediate action. To further strengthen performance of police, DGP advised to maintain good coordination, regular communication and teamwork at all levels, from police station to district and range levels, and to work with sincerity and responsibility.
