Bhubaneswar: The special ‘Pahili Bhoga Niti’ began at Puri Srimandir on Monday, as Dhanu Sankranti marks the transition of the Sun into Sagittarius (Dhanu Rashi).
This ritual will continue for a month, from today until the day before Makar Sankranti, which falls on January 13, 2025.
According to the Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA), the ‘Dwara Phita’ ritual was held at 2:00 am today and will be observed throughout the month. This offering, known as Pahili Bhog, along with Ballabh Bhog, is presented to the Lord during this time.
Other daily rituals, including Mangala Arati, Rosha Homa, Mailama, Tadapa Lagi, and Abakasha, will also be performed.
Pahili Bhoga will be offered to the deities daily between 5:30 am and 6:00 am throughout the month. Thousands of devotees visit the centuries-old temple each year to witness the ritual and receive the Pahili Bhoga on Dhanu Sankranti.
