Dhenkanal: Dhenkanal Sadar Block Chairperson Rajshree Nayak of Biju Janata Dal (BJD) lost in a no-confidence motion moved against her. Out of 62 votes, 44 went against the chairperson. The magic number was 42.
Last week, some panchayat samiti members had moved a no-confidence motion against Chairperson Rajshree Nayak before the sub-collector. All the samiti members and Sarpanch were in unknown places for 15 days, sources said.
The no-confidence vote was held at the block office under the chairmanship of the Tehsildar cum returning officer. Minister Krushnachandra Patra, MP Rudranarayan Pani, and Kamakhyanagar MLA Satrughna Jena participated in the voting process.
“A total of 62 members took part in the voting process, which was conducted as per the Orissa Panchayat Samiti Act, 1959. 44 members voted in favour of the no-confidence motion, while 17 voted against the motion. One vote was rejected as the member made double marks. Accordingly, we announced the results,” said Litusmita Mishra, Tehsildar cum returning officer.
After the BJD chairperson lost the no-confidence motion, Odisha Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare Minister and BJP leader Krushna Chandra Patra said that the BJD is breaking down day by day as it lacks an efficient leader. Not only BJD leaders but also its supporters and people are turning away from the regional party. The party will be completely destroyed, Patra added.
