Jajpur: A sudden outbreak of diarrhea has sparked panic in Vyasanagar Municipality and nearby areas including Korai, Dharmasala, and Danagadi in Odisha’s Jajpur district. More than 260 people have been hospitalised with symptoms of diarrhea and vomiting, prompting urgent medical response across multiple facilities.
Dharmasala has reported over 100 cases, while at least 65 patients from Vyasanagar have been admitted to Jajpur Road Community Health Centre. Hospital sources confirmed one fatality linked to the outbreak. Medical experts suspect food poisoning—likely caused by contaminated food consumed during the ongoing heatwave—as the probable trigger.
The surge in cases began earlier today, with dozens arriving at hospitals seeking treatment. While many patients have stabilised, several in critical condition have been referred to the District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) in Jajpur and SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack.
In response, Korei MLA Akash Das Nayak and former minister Pritiranjan Ghadai visited the affected areas and interacted with healthcare officials. They held discussions with the Chief District Medical Officer (CDMO) to monitor the situation and ensure adequate treatment for the affected.
MLA Nayak announced that a medical team from SCB Medical College is being dispatched to Jajpur to bolster healthcare efforts on the ground.
