Bhubaneswar: A differently-abled person, who was brutally attacked by unidentified miscreants on Monday evening when the Holy City was engrossed in the Rakhi Purnima celebration, succumbed to injuries while undergoing treatment at SCB Medical College and Hospital on Tuesday.
According to reports, while Harihar was walking through Hadagodia Chhak under Town police limits four miscreants who came on three bikes suddenly attacked Harihar with a machete before he could make out anything. While a profusely bleeding Harihar lay on the road writhing in pain, the miscreants fled the spot.
Miscreants reportedly attacked Sahu a few days after Sahu’s son was arrested in connection with Dinesh Khuntia’s murder.
On a tip-off, Town police reached the spot and rushed the critically injured Sahu to District Headquarters Hospital in Puri. Police, meanwhile, launched an investigation into the latest incident and are exploring possible links to the earlier crimes. The motive behind the attacks is suspected to be related to past rivalries.
Earlier, on August 8, Dinesh Khuntia was murdered in broad daylight in the Radhagobinda Lane area of Puri. The killing was followed by another incident where one Prahlad Das, a resident of Soro in Balasore. He was dumped on the roadside after being killed by gruesome miscreants.
Giving more information about Sahu’s murder, a police officer said, “We got to know around 7.30 pm that miscreants had assaulted Sahu brutally at Hadagodiasahi under Town police jurisdiction. Police found the victim Sahu writhing in pain and rushed him to Puri District Headquarters Hospital. He had severe injuries in his head. As his condition was critical, he was shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital where he died today.”
Town Police began a probe into the incident and launched a manhunt to nab the culprits.
