Bhubaneswar: The door-to-door phase of the first-ever Digital Census 2026 (House Listing and Housing Census) commenced across all 30 districts of Odisha today.
According to reports, more than 90,200 enumerators will visit households throughout the state to collect data. The Directorate of Census Operations has appointed 15,140 supervisors to oversee the massive exercise.
Each enumerator has been assigned to cover approximately 800 people, which translates to visiting and numbering 200 to 220 houses. During the visit, officials will ask the head of the household 33 questions and record the information digitally using a mobile application. The door-to-door enumeration will continue from April 16 to May 15, 2026.
Prior to this, the self-enumeration phase was held from April 1 to April 15, allowing citizens to voluntarily submit their household details online through the official census web portal using their mobile phones.
This is the first time in India that people have the option to self-enumerate digitally. All information collected during the census will remain strictly confidential. This marks a historic shift as India conducts its first fully digital Census, combining self-enumeration with traditional door-to-door surveys for greater accuracy and efficiency.
