Bhubaneswar: Electricity has been restored to 93 per cent of consumers affected by the recent floods in Odisha, with work continuing in a few waterlogged pockets where access remains difficult, senior officials said on Saturday following a high-level review of the restoration drive.
The review meeting, chaired by Additional Chief Secretary (Energy) Vishal Dev, assessed the progress of power restoration across flood-hit districts. The meeting was held under the directions and close monitoring of Deputy Chief Minister and Energy Minister Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo, who has stressed the need for expeditious restoration of electricity while ensuring public safety.
According to officials, power supply has resumed across the majority of affected areas as floodwaters continue to recede. Restoration, however, has been relatively slower in low-lying and inundated pockets of Kendrapara and Jagatsinghpur districts due to persistent waterlogging and limited access for field teams.
The DISCOMs informed the meeting that the overall power infrastructure has not suffered any major structural damage. Transformers damaged during the floods are being replaced on a priority basis wherever site conditions permit, officials said.
Reviewing the restoration efforts, the Additional Chief Secretary directed all distribution companies to complete the remaining work at the earliest without compromising safety. He instructed officials to carry out comprehensive inspections before re-energising submerged power lines and installations to prevent accidents.
The DISCOMs were also asked to maintain close coordination with district administrations in inaccessible areas and regularly update the public through media and social media platforms on the status of power outages and expected restoration timelines.
The State Government reiterated its commitment to ensuring the earliest possible restoration of electricity services while safeguarding both consumers and field personnel engaged in the recovery operations.
