Bhubaneswar: The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has taken a decision not to dispose municipal solid waste (MSW) at the dumping yard in Bhuasuni of Daruthenga Panchayat on outskirts of the city.
“As presented by the Commissioner, BMC in the meeting on August 30, 2022 under the Chairmanship of the Minister of Housing and Urban Development, regarding “Action Plan for Minimization of Transportation of Waste to Bhuasuni”, BMC will completely stop the transportation of MSW to Bhuasuni site with effect from May 17, 2023 as against May 31, 2023, committed during the meeting,” a letter from Additional Commissioner BMC to Daruthenga Sarpanch noted.
Further, BMC will start the Bio-mining of legacy waste at the dump site in order to reclaim the land to its original position for the benefit of the local residents, the letter stated.
“Accordingly, as committed by the local villagers of the Daruthenga necessary cooperation may be provided for movement and installation of machinery at the site immediately from May 17, 2023, for commencement of Bio-mining project at the earliest,” it added.
