Bargarh: The District Level Procurement Committee (DLPC) meeting, scheduled to discuss paddy procurement issues, has been cancelled due to the Nuapada by-poll and the model code of conduct.
The meeting, which was to be attended by farmers, millers, and officials, was cancelled as a precautionary measure, said Bargarh District Collector Aditya Goyal.
Meanwhile, hundreds of farmers protested outside the Collectorate, demanding that the meeting be held with the inclusion of farmers who were left out during the paddy registration process.
The farmers warned of intensifying their agitation if their demands are not met, saying they will be forced to take stronger action if the administration fails to address their concerns.
Bargarh MLA Ashwini Kumar Sarangi met the protesting farmers and assured them that the government is aware of their issues and will ensure that all eligible farmers are included in the paddy procurement process.
“The government is committed to resolving the issue, and we will make sure that all farmers are given a fair chance,” he said.
