Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has appealed to the people of Odisha to wear traditional handloom clothes during the ongoing ‘Odia Pakhya’ celebration to promote the state’s rich cultural heritage and support local weavers.

In a post shared on X, CM Majhi highlighted the beauty and significance of Odia handloom attire, describing it as “Handwoven in the loom of tradition” and a symbol of “dignified pride in traditional adornment.”

He emphasized that traditional Odia fabrics are not just clothing but an inseparable part of the state’s glorious history and identity, crafted with the skilled hands of Odisha’s weavers. Chief Minister urged all Odias to don traditional attire during ‘Odia Pakhya’ and said, “On this sacred occasion of ‘Odia Pakhya,’ let us all don traditional attire and uphold the pride of Odia identity. This small effort of ours will not only encourage our artisans but also enrich Odia culture on the global stage.”

CM Majhi further appealed, “Let us honour our traditions—preserving Odia pride.”

Through his message, the Chief Minister wanted to convey that wearing handloom clothes during Odia Pakhya is a simple yet powerful way to celebrate Odisha’s art, culture, and identity while providing encouragement and economic support to the state’s weavers and artisans.

Notably, the Odisha government is celebrating Odia Pakhya, a 14-day cultural festival, from April 1 to 14 across the state, to reconnect people with Odisha’s rich cultural heritage and traditions.
