Cuttack: Police arrested a person on charges of killing his father and stepmother over a property dispute. The incident occurred at the Old Jail Colony under Dargha Bazar police limits in Cuttack.

The victims were identified as Deepak Kumar Das, an employee of Choudwar Jail and his wife Rita Rani Das. They were found dead inside their home at Old Jail Colony, bearing multiple stab wounds and surrounded by a pool of blood.

According to reports, the only son, Alok Kumar Das, had been embroiled in a bitter dispute with his parents over property and finance. This dispute turned violent on Friday night, when Alok allegedly stabbed his stepmother first. He allegedly stabbed his father, Deepak, when he arrived at the scene.

Upon being informed, the Dargha Bazar police and a forensic team arrived at the crime scene and initiated an investigation. The bodies were sent to the SCB Medical College and Hospital for post-mortem examination, and the accused son, Alok, has been taken into custody.

Girija Shankar Chakraborty, ACP Zone 2, said, “The victims’ son-in-law informed us about the gruesome killing, following which we reached the spot and seized the bodies. Police have begun an investigation into it.”
