Bhubaneswar: A newlywed woman was allegedly poisoned to death for dowry in Charada village under Binika police limits in Subarnapur district, on Tuesday.
The deceased identified as Anjali Mahakul was recently married to Narendra Padhan. Anjali was from Ghikundi village in Boudh district under Manamunda police station limits.
Going by a complaint filed by Anjali’s mother, Narendra started having an affair with his sister-in-law soon after his marriage with Anjali. At the insistence of his sister-in-law, Narendra reportedly pressured Anjali to bring 3 bhari of gold ornaments and Rs 2 lakh from her parents’ house as dowry. The complainant also accused Anjali’s in-laws of torturing her stating that all of them poisoned her to death for dowry.
As Anjali’s condition worsened, she was initially admitted to the Binika Community Health Centre. However, despite treatment, her condition continued to deteriorate, prompting the doctors to transfer her to Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR) in Burla. Tragically, the doctors at VIMSAR declared her dead on Tuesday morning.
Following her death, Anjali’s mother filed a complaint with the Binika police, accusing her daughter’s in-laws of poisoning her. Binika police registered a case in this connection and are conducting a thorough investigation into the matter.
