Mayurbhanj: The driver and helper of a container truck had a narrow escape as the vehicle caught fire at Dwarasuni Ghati on the National Highway in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district on Friday morning. Vehicular traffic on the route was disrupted for a few hours following the mishap.
According to reports, the container truck was on its way to Mumbai from Kolkata when it caught fire near Bangiriposi. As it was passing through the national highway, the truck caught fire. However, the driver Birpal Goswami (32), and his helper jumped out of the moving truck and saved themselves.
On being informed, Bangiriposi police arrived at the spot with Fire Services personnel and doused the flames. In the meantime, the front portion of the truck was completely damaged.
While the exact reason behind the fire is yet to be ascertained, preliminary investigation suggests that an electrical short-circuit could be responsible for the fire.
