Bhubaneswar: To ensure smooth and secure celebrations of Durga Puja across the city, the Bhubaneswar Urban Police District has deployed a massive contingent comprising 305 police officers and 58 platoons. The deployment includes specialised units such as the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF), the Special Tactical Unit (STU), and the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad, all equipped with the necessary tools to handle any untoward incidents.
This year, Bhubaneswar is hosting a total of 193 Puja Pandals, divided into three categories—48 in Category A, 71 in Category B, and 68 in Category C. Additionally, there are 24 special Gold, Silver, and Mukuta pandals, 7 locations designated for Ravan Podi, 5 mass processions (Vasani), and 7 Mina Bazar events. Each venue is under constant CCTV surveillance to deter criminal activities and maintain order.
To maintain coordination and prevent disputes among Puja Committees, three Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCPs) have been assigned from the Commissionerate Police Headquarters. Both uniformed and plainclothes personnel have been mobilised to monitor the crowd and maintain law and order effectively.
The detailed police deployment includes 3 DCPs, 6 Deputy Commissioners or Additional DCPs, 12 DSPs/ACPs/ACs, 33 Inspectors, 172 Sub-Inspectors and Assistant Sub-Inspectors, 38 platoons of police force, 20 platoons of Home Guards, and 79 women constables, along with 1 company of CAPF and 1 STU unit.
Fire safety measures have been coordinated with the Fire Services Department, and a medical unit equipped with first-aid facilities has been stationed at Traffic Police Station-1 to respond promptly to any emergencies. Special arrangements have also been made for cultural programs, while mosques and churches in the city have been placed under enhanced security measures.
A dedicated photography and videography team has been set up at the Police Control Room to keep a close watch on activities throughout the city. The STU remains on high alert to address any radical or high-risk threats swiftly.
The Commissionerate Police has urged citizens to cooperate with law enforcement agencies and participate in Durga Puja festivities in a peaceful and safe manner.
