Cuttack: As the countdown begins for the revered Durga Puja festival, Cuttack, the cultural hub of Odisha, is abuzz with excitement. For decades, this city has been synonymous with vibrant Durga Puja celebrations, and this year promises to be no exception. Various puja committees, driven by passion and creativity, are racing against time to erect magnificent pandals that will showcase the country’s rich cultural heritage.
In a dazzling display of artistry and craftsmanship, over 173 pandals will come alive with intricate idols of Goddess Durga and Hara-Parvati, while 36 pandals will showcase the traditional Odia filigree art. The Malgodam Puja Committee is pushing the boundaries of innovation with a stunning 25-foot-tall Ayodhya Ram Temple gate, estimated to cost a whopping ₹55 lakh.
Similarly, the Shikharpur and Gandarpur puja committees are building 50-foot-tall gates.
According to sources, artisans are working day and night to complete the intricate clay idols. Meanwhile, the shortage of clay and the rising cost of raw materials have increased expenses, with each pandal spending ₹50,000 to ₹60,000 on idols alone.
This year, the Malgodam puja committee is constructing 12 electric gates, while the Sikharpur Mandap committee is building 16 electric gates.
As per sources, the Malgodam puja committee is erecting 12 elaborate electric gates, while the Shikharpur Mandap committee is building 16 stunning gates.
The puja committees have, meanwhile, requested the police to allow cultural programmes until midnight. However, some committees are concerned about the High Court’s restrictions on pandal construction. Despite these challenges, Cuttack is gearing up for a vibrant Durga Puja celebration, showcasing its rich cultural traditions and artistic excellence
