Jagatsinghpur: Following heavy rains in the region, a large light gate at Balikuda Market in Jagatsinghpur district collapsed on Thursday, trapping more than five people along with two bikes underneath. All the trapped individuals have been rescued and admitted to Balikuda Community Health Centre (CHC) for treatment.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) had issued a Red Warning for Jagatsinghpur district, forecasting scattered heavy to very heavy rainfall, isolated extremely heavy downpours, thunderstorms with lightning, and gusty winds reaching speeds of 40-50 km/h at certain locations.
The collapsed structure, a 30-foot-high light gate erected for the Durga Puja celebrations, caused disruption on the Jagatsinghpur-Machhagaon road.
Upon receiving the information, the fire brigade arrived at the site and is currently working to clear the road by cutting the bamboo structure with cutters.
