Jayapur: East Coast Railway (ECoR) General Manager Parameshwar Funkwal on Wednesday inspected the landslide-affected Maliguda area and reviewed restoration works being carried out on a war footing to restore the disrupted rail section.
Senior railway officials, including Principal Chief Engineer Rajesh Shekhawat, CAO/Construction, and Rayagada DRM Amitabh Singhal, accompanied the General Manager during the inspection. Shekhawat and Singhal, who are stationed at the site, briefed Funkwal on the progress of restoration work and measures being taken for early restoration of the affected lines.
The landslide has affected railway tracks at two locations—between KM 215/17 and 215/26 near Maliguda Rail Bridge and between KM 217/25 and 217/36 in the Maliguda station yard.
Engineering, Traction Distribution (TRD) and Signal & Telecommunication (S&T) teams are working continuously at the affected locations to expedite restoration.
Funkwal directed officials to accord top priority to restoring the section at the earliest while maintaining safety at every stage of the operation.
He also reviewed arrangements for personnel engaged in the restoration work. A medical health camp equipped with first-aid facilities, ORS and essential medicines has been set up at the site.
The General Manager instructed officials to ensure adequate food for workers and proper lighting at the restoration locations to facilitate uninterrupted work, particularly during night hours.
The restoration operation is being monitored round the clock by ECoR headquarters and the concerned division.
