Bhubaneswar: Parmeshwar Funkwal, General Manager, East Coast Railway, conducted Khurda Road–Puri section inspection today, followed by a detailed review of station development works at Puri, in view of the forthcoming Rath Yatra.
The inspection focused on assessing track conditions, signalling systems, and overall operational efficiency along this important section, which witnesses a substantial increase in passenger traffic during major pilgrimage occasions.
At Puri station, the General Manager undertook a comprehensive review of ongoing redevelopment and passenger amenity enhancement works, with a strong emphasis on pilgrimage-centric infrastructure. Considering the massive influx of devotees during Rath Yatra, efforts are being prioritised to ensure smooth passenger handling and improved facilities.
During the inspection, emphasis was laid on augmentation and upgradation of passenger amenities to cater to the heavy pilgrim rush, including development of platforms, circulating areas, waiting halls, and overall improvement in passenger-centric infrastructure to enhance convenience and ease of movement.
The General Manager laid special emphasis on the timely completion of all redevelopment works at Puri station ahead of Rath Yatra, directing officials to closely monitor progress and ensure readiness well in advance of the festival. He stressed that all works must be executed with a passenger-centric approach to facilitate safe, smooth, and comfortable movement of pilgrims.
He also underscored the importance of maintaining high standards of safety, sanitation, and inter-departmental coordination to ensure efficient train operations during the peak pilgrimage period.
Senior officials, including Principal Heads of Departments and the Divisional Railway Manager of Khurda Road, accompanied the General Manager during the inspection.
This initiative reflects East Coast Railway’s commitment to enhancing infrastructure and ensuring seamless, safe, and passenger-friendly services during major religious events of national importance.
