Bhubaneswar: East Coast Railway (ECoR) on Sunday intensified monitoring of drinking water quality and sanitation at railway stations and colonies to ensure safe and hygienic facilities for passengers and railway employees.
As part of a special 15-day fortnight drive conducted from August 18 to September 3, 2026, followed by continuous monitoring, ECoR carried out extensive water quality checks covering 175 railway stations and 160 railway colonies. A total of 1,037 residual chlorine tests and 288 bacteriological tests were conducted during the drive and subsequent monitoring.
The drive covered all three divisions of ECoR — Khurda Road, Sambalpur and Rayagada. During the monitoring, seven bacteriological samples were initially found to be non-compliant. Immediate corrective measures were taken, followed by mandatory retesting. All seven samples were subsequently found to be compliant with the prescribed protocols.
ECoR continues to conduct routine and surprise water quality tests, along with regular cleaning of water tanks, water coolers and station facilities. Daily sanitation drives covering station premises, waiting halls, toilets and drains are also being carried out under regular supervision.
