Jajpur: An elderly couple allegedly died by suicide at their home in Kothasahi village under Brahmabarada police limits in Jajpur district on Monday.
The deceased have been identified as Bijay Rout (60) and his wife, Padmini (55).
According to reports, the couple’s son, who resides in Bengaluru, tried calling them on Monday morning. When they did not answer, he asked a friend, Somnath, to check on them. Upon visiting the house, Somnath discovered the couple hanging from the ceiling fan in the pooja room.
Upon being informed, the Brahmabarada police, along with a forensic team, arrived at the scene and launched an investigation.
Preliminary findings suggest that the couple may have taken the extreme step due to mental distress triggered by an unpleasant incident. However, further investigation is underway to determine the exact cause.
