Bhubaneswar: In a tragic incident, an elderly couple was trampled to death by a wild elephant in Lanjigarh section of Biswanathpur range, South forest division in Kalahandi district. The incident took place in Kadomali village under Lakhbahali panchayat late on Saturday night.
Mugana Majhi, 65, and his wife Gada Majhi, 62, were identified as the victims. The couple was asleep when an elephant suddenly appeared, roaring near their home. The elephant destroyed the house. Fearing attack, family members ran away from the spot while the elderly couple was unable to escape and fell prey to the elephant’s attack.
Forest Department officials promptly arrived at the scene following reports of the incident. The family demanded adequate compensation for the loss of lives and properties.
