Bhubaneswar: Police on Wednesday arrested a 72-year-old man from Kendrapada district for allegedly raping his 12-year-old granddaughter multiple times.
According to police, the minor girl had been living with her grandfather and other family members in a village in the district. The accused allegedly raped the girl several times at their residence and threatened to kill her if she disclosed the crime to anyone, a police officer said.
The girl later confided in her paternal aunt, who lodged a complaint at the police station on Tuesday.
“Acting on the complaint, we launched an investigation and arrested the accused,” said Tantiapala Marine police station IIC Naresh Kumar Sahoo.
The accused confessed to the crime during interrogation, Sahoo said. He was remanded to judicial custody after a local court rejected his bail plea.
