Dhenkanal: In a gruesome incident, a woman allegedly poured boiling oil and hot water on her 80-year-old father-in-law over domestic dispute at Naupala Kateni village under Parjang police station in Dhenkanal district.
The victim, Srikant Bhutia (80), sustained 50 per cent burns and was initially admitted to Parjang Community Health Centre. As his condition deteriorated, he was subsequently shifted to Dhenkanal District Headquarters Hospital for advanced treatment.
According to preliminary reports, the incident occurred on Monday night following an argument between Srikant Bhutia and his daughter-in-law. In a fit of rage, the woman crossed all limits and poured the scalding mixture of hot oil and water on the elderly man.
It is learnt from local sources that after the death of her husband, the daughter-in-law had been allegedly subjecting her father-in-law to continuous mental and physical harassment.
Upon receiving information, Parjang Police reached the spot, detained the accused daughter-in-law for interrogation. Further investigation is underway.
This horrific incident has caused widespread outrage in the area, with locals condemning the brutal act against an elderly person.
