Rayagada: An elderly man was beaten to death by villagers at Titiguda village under Kashipur block of Rayagada district over suspicion of practicing witchcraft.
The deceased identified as Dai Majhi along with his wife and two sons were asleep at his home on late Wednesday night when some villagers barged into their house and attacked them.
Dai was severely beaten by the villagers leading to his death while his two sons managed to escape and saved their lives. However, they sustained critical injuries in the attack and are presently under treatment at Tikiri Hospital.
On getting information, local police rushed to the village and brought the situation under control. The body was seized and sent for post-mortem. A person was also detained in this connection and during interrogation, he confessed to committing the crime.
